You have a great character like that, who really deserves his own film, and turn him into a teleporting mime. It's like these writers never read the comic books and just Wikipedia'd the damn thing. Still, it's better than THE LAST STAND. And yes, it seems FIRST CLASS is ignoring those two films - yay!

As for THE WOLVERINE, isn't Aronofsky off the project? Supposedly he didn't want to be away from his family for a long period of time, so he dropped it. If he's still producing it or maybe contributing to the screenplay, that would be cool though.Fred [The Wolf]https://www.blogger.com/profile/03208803636786210066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717349721694216715.post-52941415651420448572011-06-07T19:07:34.794-04:002011-06-07T19:07:34.794-04:00Great review, bro! I don't hate it as much as others do, but it's certainly flawed, and what they did to Deadpool at the end was blasphemous (I'm glad First Class basically made this film and The Last Stand non-canon). Still, Reynolds rocked, and it's an enjoyable flick. I have a feeling The Wolverine will be much better with Aronofsky behind it.

A better title for this movie would be "Wolvie and Pals 4: How All This Mess Began".theStonedHorrorCritichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07866677372336943783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717349721694216715.post-38263631607472992192011-06-06T16:15:13.150-04:002011-06-06T16:15:13.150-04:00@Chris - I do agree with the whole Weapon X deal. ...@Chris - I do agree with the whole Weapon X deal. It should be made to be totally traumatic and painful. In fact, X2 did that perfectly. But it does come across very easily here. I still feel like this film is pointless anyway. We already know what happened. Why do we need 100 minutes to see it? As for Taylor Kitsch, he sounds almost Cajun during the poker scene. After that, definitely Canadian. Gambit deserved better to be honest.

@Daniel - Yeah, I guess I was being too nice with this one. I think THE LAST STAND disappoints me more as a film though because I was never really expecting much out of X-MOW anyway. And the narrative is more straightforward than THE LAST STAND as well, which is why I don't look so down on it. The acting is definitely the best part of the film.Fred [The Wolf]https://www.blogger.com/profile/03208803636786210066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717349721694216715.post-46180650899011110822011-06-06T13:13:37.300-04:002011-06-06T13:13:37.300-04:00Nice write up Fred. I’ve sat through a lot of crapfest and this was the only that had me actually consider leaving before it finished. I do think you are spot on about performances being the saving graces here, a shame they are wasted.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11999677394326327996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717349721694216715.post-43502754406389583502011-06-04T00:19:05.616-04:002011-06-04T00:19:05.616-04:00One of the main things that annoyed me about X-MOW...One of the main things that annoyed me about X-MOW was the transformation scene. In Wolverine's flashbacks in X1 and 2, the experiment was made out to look horrifyingly traumatic, and you're under the impression that his whole body was sliced open to put in the adamantium skeleton frame, you even see wolvie screaming and covered in blood, yet in Origins, they stick a pipe in him, he barely reacts, then he jumps out roaring and runs off, all bloodless and un-horryfying.
And the guy playing Gambit actually attempted a Cajun accent in this? It's been a couple of years since I saw this but I only remember him sounding Canadian.Chris Hewsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11566568274862884325noreply@blogger.com
